The headquarters of the pro-Russian government in Donetsk, hit by a missile | D.W. | 10.16.2022

The Ukrainian Army attacked this Sunday (10.16.2022) with American-made HIMARS missiles the headquarters of the pro-Russian Administration of Donetsk, causing serious destruction and two injuries. Ukraine has not yet confirmed the attack.

“How can this new terrorist act by Ukraine be assessed? A deliberate attack was carried out against a civilian headquarters, there is no doubt about it because there have already been hits nearby. And now it is a direct hit,” he said. the pro-Russian mayor of the city, Alexei Kulemzin, quoted by the Russian agency TASS.

The head of the local Administration denounced that it was the impact of a HIMARS missile and confirmed that the property received “considerable damage”. Kulemzin published photos of the Administration on his Telegram channel, in which the half-destroyed building can be seen, with all the windows broken.

According to the Donetsk Territorial Defense General Staff, two people were injured as a result of the attack, and several cars, which were parked next to the headquarters, caught fire. “A miracle no one died,” said the mayor, noting that work is already being done to alleviate the consequences of the attack. Kulemzin indicated that the work of the Administration “has not been paralyzed, it has not stopped, all the services maintain their interaction with each other.”

The city of Donetsk is the capital of the region of the same name and is currently controlled by the Donetsk People’s Republic, backed by Russia since 2014 and which Moscow has been in the process of annexing since September along with the Kherson, Lugansk and Zaporizhia regions in the largest expansion of Russian territory in decades.
