The BEST mask for Freediving!, June 28, 2007

The Sphera is a PERFECT choice for freediving (which is why so many world record holders are diving with them now). It’s very light and extremely low volume, so equalizing it takes almost no effort. Plus, being flexible, it will actually flex around your face BEFORE mask squeeze becomes a painful problem; I’ve taken it down to over 30′ before I even HAD to equalize it. The curved lenses are great, as they afford a fantastic field of vision. They do cause a bit of distortion on the sides, but you soon adjust to it. When diving on a line, it’s not noticable at all, since you’re looking straight ahead. The only cons of this mask are that the lenses are plastic, and prone to scratches (keep it in it’s case when not in use), and the mask does wear out and lose it’s shape in about a year’s time, requiring the purchase of a new one. All in all, it’s a FANTASTIC freediving mask.

I buy the swim goggles and love them. I was surprised when I found they made a free diving mask. I tried it free diving and it is the best mask ever. Low volume and wide field of view, No pulling on the face from the air. I have never found distortion in in the swim goggles or the full face mask. I tried the mask on a 25 foot scuba dive and it worked great! Not sure if I want to take it deeper without a backup. I just love the field of view and low volume. Maybe they will start making it with tempered glass?

Great low volume mask – for underwater hockey!, March 23, 2009

I use this mask for underwater hockey only (Go MN Loons!); im not a free diver, nor do I scuba (much). Wide view angle, low profile avoids snagging. I paired it with a modified Omersub snorkel (cut short), and polypropylene webbing 3 pt mask strap – great for keeping it on my face, where it belongs.
    Possible downsides:
Plastic lenses will scratch (solution: keep it in the included case!) and possibly pop out or leak (not yet, but I hear it happens).
Low volume means little to no protection of the nose and nose bridge in the event of a fin to the face. bruising likely.
I forgot to shave last time I wore the mask during practice and I suffered some leaking… the seal is pretty flexi.
